Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, separated
  • 1 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Fresh fruit of your choice (e.g., strawberries, blueberries, bananas)

Method:

1. Preheat your Hamilton Beach Pro Smart Waffle Maker and select the Belgian pre-set setting.

2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

3. In another bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.

4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not over mix; it's okay if there are a few lumps.

5. In a separate clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.

6. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the batter until just incorporated.

7. Select your desired texture using the moist/crisp or uniform texture button on your waffle maker.

8. Lightly grease the waffle maker with cooking spray or melted butter (optional not required).

9. Pour enough batter onto the centre of the preheated waffle maker to cover the waffle plates.

10. Close the lid and cook according to the waffle maker's instructions or until the waffles are cooked through and crispy on the outside.

11. Carefully remove the Belgian waffles from the waffle maker and transfer them to a serving plate.

12. Serve the warm Belgian waffles topped with your favourite fresh fruit and a drizzle of syrup or honey.
